The Journey of Web 1.0 to Web 5.0

Web 5.0

What exactly comes to one’s mind with the word Web 5.0?

It is natural for these questions to rise in one’s mind! The Web was a dream for people in the late 20th century and is the reality of today’s era. In the 21st century, individuals do not find the Web a big deal. Instead, it is a day-to-day phenomenon used by everyone. Whether a child or an adult, rich or poor, everyone comes across this, and it is widely used.

Let us go through the basics. So, the Web was brought into the picture in 1989 for a few private organizations by Tim Berners-Lee and then opened up for everyone in 1991.

The Web stands for World Wide Web, an information assemblage retrieved through the Internet. Internet and Web are not equivalent; the Web is a part retrieved through the Internet. A different point of view could be the Internet being the base, and the Web is served on top of the base. Now, the Web was developed with difficulty in information from other computers and learning different programs on different computers.

Web 0.0 was the phase of Developing the Internet. Since its invention, the Web has upgraded to various versions, and Web 5.0 is the latest. The Web has revolutionized the whole world, and one cannot imagine a day without the Web.

Web 1.0

The whole evolution of the Internet is given below, from the invention of web/web 1.0 to web 4.0. Initially, websites and portals were developed, and few online services existed. They were not present on a large scale, and no direct interaction was available. The first type of Web developed had only one-way transmission. When web 1.0 was produced, it was based on ideas such as Decentralisation, Non-discrimination, Universality, and Consensus.  It was also popularly known as the Read-only Web.

Web 2.0

After the basic Web was developed, individuals understood this could pave a path for revolution and bring the world closer. They worked on making it a reality, and then the social networks originated. Also, applications like blogs, forums, and podcasts came into existence. One of the significant issues faced with web 1.0 was the lack of interaction between the existing users, which was solved by web 2.0. Web 2.0 emerged in 2004, and individuals could convey information through it. It was a significant milestone, as the user could create content and contribute to the Web, which led to becoming a collaborative web/ read-write web. A few noteworthy developments of Web 2.0 are Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook.

Web 3.0

Now, by 2006 Web 3.0 was created, and it has various factors embedded in it. It is known as Semantic Executing Web. The motto of this was to create a read-write-execute web. So, in web 3.0, Artificial Intelligence, 3D Web, Enhanced Web, and databases are found.

One of the significant achievements done by Web 3.0 is merging the semantic markup and web services. Semantic markup is the void between automated applications and human web users. It simplifies the process. Also, the web service is a way to help the interaction between computers, and combining the semantics and services broadens the whole Web. Web 3.0  has increased the efficiency of the user experience utilizing the Web and brought in new technologies.

Also, through web 3.0, a method of co-creation was introduced where the user and Web were not different entities anymore; they were a collective process. Web 3.0 boosted the research by making it quite convenient, and just a click away. It brought in different new jobs. An era of the Internet was devised through Web 3.0, becoming a vital part of daily routine.

Web 4.0

Web 4.0 was coined in 2009 and is still relevant even after a decade. It has several machineries incorporated, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, Big Data, and Augmented reality. Web 4.0 is the future. It has given a different world altogether for individuals. There have been predictions such that it is presumed that every individual will have a digital version of themselves and be equipped with intelligent and automated systems. It is known as the Mobile Web. Web 4.0 is the next step to connecting actual and virtual worlds in real-time. With the fourth version of Web 4.0, its services became more user-friendly.

Web 4.0 is an intelligent phenomenon that embeds semantic markup technologies and gives a whole content-generating way. The purpose of Web 4.0 is to increase additional refinement and more elevated levels of intelligence. This Web has extensive data generation and several efficient ways to tackle the data.

Web 4.0 is popularly known as the Intelligent Web or a Smart Web. It is made more systematic and transparent. At times, through this Web, some systems work on behalf of the users collaboratively to complete the task. The motto of Web 4.0 was to enable the Web to solve more significant global issues and thereby make it available as a whole to engage with the actual world.

Web 4.0 consists of the following attributes:

  • Web 4.0 is comprehended as the symbiotic Web. By symbiotic Web, one understands that the intent is to have a symbiotic exchange between humans and devices. The distinction between what makes a human and a machine will decrease is one of the goals.
  • With Web 4.0, different parts of the world are connected where new people can meet, socialize and lessen the disparity among places. The Web is not supposed to be down.
  • Web 4.0 is its Operating System, i.e., the entire Web behaves like one system with information transmitted from one place to another.
  • Web 4.0 is an automated form that communicates with users exactly how individuals intercommunicate.
  • Web 4.0 is open, connected, and clever.
  • The pace and trustworthiness of Web 4.0 are more significant than ever.

How Web 4.0 Changed The Internet:

By having Web 4.0, the Internet will become a necessity for all sorts of industries. The Web is an essential element everywhere in the medical, corporate, or sports industry. It is a elementary requirement of an ordinary person. If one wants to purchase a product in a particular region, even that is possible due to the Web. The pandemic has shown human beings the importance of the Web. The whole dynamic during the pandemic was shifted to virtual means, and it was proved there would be a time when everything would be virtualized. Web 4.0 is a stepping stone to the virtualization of the world.

Many businesses get formed on the Web and thrive on it as well. Many offices are being shut down and carrying out businesses on the Web. The growth of 3D browsers has made it possible to visit the showrooms virtually and search for the desired products. With the development of Web 4.0, the time efficiency of individuals has drastically increased, and people can focus on multiple things simultaneously. Web 4.0 has changed customer understanding because the customer gets complete control.

With Web 4.0, mergers between companies are possible. There are many mergers ups between companies through the Web that one would not expect, but eventually, it will benefit both. Through these mergers, services are available at low rates, too, which as a customer is quite advantageous. Web 4.0 makes it manageable for various types of companies to share knowledge and fuse services.

Web 4.0, as it incorporates IoT, also sensors linked to systems in different countries can be found and detect modifications. The Internet of individuals is the intent of Web 4.0. It is a means of growth of the human race. Can you imagine the time before Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant? These AI agents are synced so much in one’s life that one cannot remember a time before their existence. The facial recognition systems and electronic agents sensing one’s needs are part of Web 4.0. Through the Internet, intelligent devices are linked and can accomplish assignments without human intervention. Also, Web 4.0 prediction and analysis systems have emerged, which help increase sales.

Another essential feature of Web 4.0 is Virtual Reality in daily life. Disabled people get virtual help, few AI agents can provide emotional interaction, and any soothing stuff is a click away. Google Maps, booking tickets, and searching for lost items have become easier due to Web 4.0. Through this, the medicinal industry has an immense help.
